Top 5 Takeaways from Black Enterprise’s 2019 SOAR Conference Everyone Should Know
1. Put Yourself in the Room!
A large part of success is based on your access to social capital also known as a network. Since attending various social and networking events, I have greatly expanded my network and become a familiar face among successful career women between Atlanta and Charlotte that often frequent Black Enterprise events. These women are successful corporate executives, small business owners, executive coaches, and multiple business owners who embrace women’s empowerment. During the SOAR Conference, I connected, reconnected, and introduce myself to other successful women in hopes to build long-term meaningful relationships that will allow me to be a blessing to their business and/or career goals and vice versa. After all its not always about what you can get out of the connection. We should focus more on what we can offer.
2. Your MINDSET Matters!
Black Enterprise is known for empowering people to take their business to the next level through information and connections. SOAR which was inspired by way of collaborating with Bishop TD Jakes, challenged us to consider our mindset. The theme of the importance of our mindset and re-writing our mental narratives echoed throughout the speakers. The POWER of a POSITIVE mindset, the importance of controlling your thoughts, and moving from thoughts to implementation were mentioned from start to finish. As a therapist, I understand the significance of thoughts when it comes to social and emotional wellbeing. However, SOAR reminded us that our mindset must change in order to go to the next level in our careers and business. We must think and operate on the level in which we aspire to go. There is an old saying, “So a Man (Woman) IS as he (She) Thinketh”.
3. Get Your Money Right!
As the saying goes, “What’s understood don’t have to be explained”.
A major key element to being successful and living a joyous life is being financially FIT. A common source of stress reported among adults of all ages is finances. When your money it not “right” or “in order” it tends to cause stress that spills over into other parts of your life impacting your emotions, mental well-being, physical health, and social life. When our finances are stable and in order it frees up our mind and attention to focus on other things such as enjoying life and working towards goals. Financial stability and responsibility gives you the freedom, access, and resources to do MORE.
4. Your Health is Your Wealth!
At the center of our being is our health. It impacts our entire wellbeing. The better we feel the more we do. Health is achieved through two ways: what we put into our bodies and how we care for our bodies. Health and fitness plans should include the following: nutrition, physical fitness, and selfcare practices such as relaxation techniques and stretching. Physical check-ups with a primary care physically should also be incorporated to one’s health and fitness plan. Often times we find out about illnesses or conditions late due to a lack of regularly scheduled check-ups. I challenge you today to create your own personalized health and fitness plan to work towards.
5. Last but not least: Implementation is KEY!
There are many people walking around with great ideas and glorious dreams. However, the difference between them and a billionaire such as Andrew Carnegie or our modern-day Oprah Winfrey is their ability to implement and produce. Think about your dreams and goals that have been running around in your brain or sit dormant in a journal. Are you taking action towards your goals and completing your to-do list? In order to get to the other side, we must take action and implement strategies that move us closer to our goals.
